# Apex Trader Funding 4.0: what changed on 1 March 2026 for the MAE rule, the 5:1 rule and consistency > Apex Trader Funding 4.0 started on 1 March 2026. What changed for the MAE rule, the 5:1 rule and consistency (30% or 50%), and where sources differ. - Source: https://setupbook.io/blog/apex-trader-funding-4-0-rule-changes - Site: SetupBook - Language: en - Published: 2026-10-28 - Tags: prop firm, news, rules - tr: https://setupbook.io/tr/blog/apex-trader-funding-4-0-kural-degisiklikleri-mae-tutarlilik - es: https://setupbook.io/es/blog/apex-trader-funding-4-0-cambios-regla-mae-consistencia - pt: https://setupbook.io/pt/blog/apex-trader-funding-4-0-mudancas-nas-regras - id: https://setupbook.io/id/blog/perubahan-aturan-apex-trader-funding-4-0-mae-konsistensi - vi: https://setupbook.io/vi/blog/apex-trader-funding-4-0-thay-doi-quy-tac-mae-nhat-quan - de: https://setupbook.io/de/blog/apex-trader-funding-4-0-regeln-mae-konsistenz - fr: https://setupbook.io/fr/blog/apex-trader-funding-4-0-changements-de-regles - ar: https://setupbook.io/ar/blog/apex-trader-funding-4-0-rule-changes On 1 March 2026 Apex Trader Funding stopped selling its old accounts and started "4.0", a new rule set for its futures traders. The guides that cover it say the new accounts no longer have two old rules. One is the MAE rule, a limit on how far a trade may go against you. The other is the 5:1 rule, a limit on how much a trade may risk compared with its target. The consistency rule is the messy part, because some pages say 30% and others say 50%. One warning first. Apex's own help-centre pages refused our automated check on 30 October 2026, so we could not read them ourselves. This post rests on eight independent guides, review sites and one rival firm's blog, checked against each other. We found no Finance Magnates or FX News Group report on the launch. Where the sources disagree, we say so. Before you act on a number, read the help centre and your own dashboard. ## Quick timeline | Date | What happened | Where it is recorded | |---|---|---| | 10 February 2026 (edited 3 March) | A guide still lists the 30% consistency rule and the MAE rule as current | [TradersPost guide](https://blog.traderspost.io/article/apex-trader-funding-review) | | 1 March 2026 | Apex stops selling its earlier Evaluation and Performance Account products; 4.0 accounts start; the old ones are called "Legacy" | [QuantVPS](https://quantvps.com/blog/apex-pa-account-rules), [SpicyFutures](https://spicyfutures.com/apex-trader-funding-4-0-review-2026/) | | 22 April 2026 | A guide is updated: no consistency rule in the evaluation, 50% for payouts | [Tanto guide](https://tradetanto.com/learn/apex-trader-funding-rules-what-you-need-to-know) | | 10 October 2026 | A guide re-checks the rules and says current accounts dropped the 5:1 and MAE rules, which now apply to Legacy accounts only | [QuantVPS](https://quantvps.com/blog/apex-pa-account-rules) | ## What changed on 1 March? The table shows the rule before and after, as the guides describe it. "Legacy" means an account bought under the old rules. | Rule | Legacy accounts | 4.0 accounts | How sure are we? | |---|---|---|---| | MAE rule | Open losses limited to 30% of the start-of-day profit balance | Removed | Five guides agree | | 5:1 rule | A risk-to-reward ratio requirement | Removed | Four guides agree | | Consistency, evaluation | 30% according to one guide | None | Five guides agree | | Consistency, funded account | 30% | 50% of the profit since your last approved payout | Seven guides agree | | Minimum trading days | 7 days to pass the evaluation | None to pass; 5 qualifying days before each payout request | Five guides agree | | Drawdown | Trailing drawdown | Choose end-of-day or intraday trailing when you buy | Three guides | | Billing | Monthly subscription | One-time evaluation fee, plus an activation fee after you pass | Three guides | The 30% MAE detail comes from the TradersPost guide, which also says the limit rose to 50% once profits passed double the safety net. That guide was written around the changeover, so it describes the old rule. ## Why did traders care about the MAE and 5:1 rules? MAE stands for maximum adverse excursion, the deepest point a trade goes against you before it closes (see [MAE and MFE](https://setupbook.io/glossary/mae-mfe)). Under the old rule, that dip could count against you even if the trade ended in profit. Phidias, a rival prop firm, says the rule could flag exactly those trades. The 5:1 rule limited the other side of the trade. Phidias says it blocked scalping and mean-reversion styles. SpicyFutures says that dropping the MAE rule, the 5:1 rule and monthly billing answered the three biggest complaints about the old system. That is one guide's view. We have no data on how many traders broke these rules or how many payouts they affected. ## Is there still a risk limit? Yes, in a looser form. Three guides (Tanto, SpicyFutures and QuantVPS) say 4.0 still bans strategies that risk a lot for a small target. Their example is a 5-tick target with a 150-tick stop. So the fixed ratio is gone, but a judgment call remains. Where exactly the line sits is for Apex to decide, and the guides do not say. Two other limits matter. SpicyFutures says every position must be flat before 4:59 pm Eastern time. Phidias says overnight trading is banned. Read together, they point the same way, so a swing trader should check the help centre before buying. ## 30% or 50%? Why the sources disagree The disagreement is smaller than it looks. Four things cause it. First, the numbers belong to different accounts. Legacy accounts keep the 30% rule. The 4.0 funded account uses 50%. A guide that mixes the two will contradict itself. Second, the evaluation and the funded account differ. Five guides say the evaluation has no consistency rule at all. The 50% test applies when you ask for a payout. One of them says so in plain words: it applies to the Performance Account only, not during the evaluation. Third, old pages stay online. The TradersPost guide, edited on 3 March 2026, still shows 30% as the current rule. Fourth, one guide contradicts itself. The CoinCodeCap review lists the 30% rule among the deleted rules, then says elsewhere that it was raised to 50% on funded accounts. Both cannot be the whole truth. The 50% rule, as SpicyFutures states it, says no single profitable day may make up 50% or more of your profit since the last approved payout. Exactly 50% fails, according to the same guide. Say your profit since the last payout is $3,000. Your best day must then stay under $1,500. A day of exactly $1,500 would not pass. ## What happens to old accounts? Accounts bought before 1 March keep the old rules until they close. SpicyFutures says there is no way to convert them to 4.0. There is a catch. Phidias says Apex has sold Legacy evaluations again for a limited time. If that is right, the purchase date alone does not tell you which rules you have. The name of the account on your dashboard does. ## What does Apex say? We found no Apex statement that explains why the rules changed, and its pages did not load for our check. Search results do list an Apex help-centre article titled "50% Consistency Requirement", and they show Apex's home page listing "NO MAE Rule" among its features, but we could not open either page, so we do not rely on them. The guides say they took their figures from Apex's help centre. SpicyFutures says its evaluation, payout and drawdown figures date from September 2026. TradeCovex says Apex's site advertises that the MAE rule is gone. A fair reading is that the broad picture is solid and the small print is not. Any exact number here is only as good as the guide it came from. ## What traders can take from it Rules pages change, and the page you read at checkout may not be the page that applies when you ask for a payout. A few habits protect you. - Save a dated screenshot of the rules for your exact account type on the day you buy, and again when you request a payout. - Find out whether your account is Legacy or 4.0 before you plan a strategy around either rule set. - Track your own consistency. Divide your best day by your total profit since the last payout, and keep that figure under the limit with some room to spare. The [consistency](https://setupbook.io/glossary/consistency) page explains the idea. - Pick end-of-day or intraday drawdown on purpose. The [prop firm drawdown calculator](https://setupbook.io/calculators/prop-firm-drawdown-calculator) shows what each one leaves you on a given account size. - Log the worst dip of each trade, even if no rule counts it today. A journal that imports your own platform data, such as SetupBook, does the dividing and the dip-tracking for you. It also gives you a dated record of what you traded if a rule page changes later. ## Frequently asked questions ### What is Apex Trader Funding 4.0? It is the name the guides use for the account and rule set Apex started selling on 1 March 2026. It replaced the earlier Evaluation and Performance Account products. Older accounts became "Legacy" and kept their rules. ### Did Apex remove the MAE rule? For 4.0 accounts, five guides say yes. Legacy accounts still have it, according to QuantVPS. The TradersPost guide, edited on 3 March 2026, still describes the rule as current, which shows how easily old pages mislead. ### Is the Apex consistency rule 30% or 50%? Both numbers are real, but they belong to different accounts. Legacy accounts use 30%. On 4.0 funded accounts, the guides say no single profitable day may reach 50% of the profit since your last approved payout. The evaluation has no consistency rule. ### Is there still a risk-reward limit at Apex? The fixed 5:1 ratio is gone for 4.0 accounts, according to four guides. Three guides add that Apex still bans strategies that risk far more than they aim to make, such as a 150-tick stop for a 5-tick target. The exact limit is not published as a ratio. ### Do old Apex accounts get the new rules? Not automatically. The guides say Legacy accounts keep the old rules until they close, and SpicyFutures says there is no conversion path. Check the account name on your dashboard. ## Sources - [Apex Trader Funding 4.0 review, SpicyFutures](https://spicyfutures.com/apex-trader-funding-4-0-review-2026/): a review with a before-and-after rule table; says its figures date from September 2026 - [Apex Trader Funding 4.0 explained, Phidias](https://phidiaspropfirm.com/education/apex-trader-funding-4-0-explained): a rival prop firm's guide to the 4.0 changes - [Apex PA account rules, QuantVPS](https://quantvps.com/blog/apex-pa-account-rules): a guide checked on 10 October 2026; says the MAE and 5:1 rules apply to Legacy accounts only - [Apex Trader Funding rules, Tanto](https://tradetanto.com/learn/apex-trader-funding-rules-what-you-need-to-know): a guide updated on 22 April 2026 - [Apex Trader Funding review, TradersPost](https://blog.traderspost.io/article/apex-trader-funding-review): a guide published on 10 February 2026 and edited on 3 March 2026 - [Apex Trader Funding review, CoinCodeCap](https://coincodecap.com/apex-trader-funding-review): a review updated on 7 April 2026 that contradicts itself on the 30% rule - [Apex Trader Funding rules 2026, TradeCovex](https://tradecovex.com/guides/apex-trader-funding-rules-2026): a guide that says Apex's site advertises the MAE rule as gone - [Apex Trader Funding rules overview, PropTradingVibes](https://proptradingvibes.com/blog/apex-trader-funding-rules-overview): a guide that states the 50% payout test and no evaluation rule *This post is based on public sources as of October 30, 2026.
