Trade replay means watching a trade you already took again, one bar at a time, on the candles it was traded on. The chart starts shortly before the entry and the bars after the current one stay hidden, so you review the trade with the information you had when you clicked, not with the finished chart that makes every decision look obvious.

Why traders replay

  • Hindsight. A finished chart shows where price went. A replay shows only what was on the screen at each moment, which is the only fair way to judge an entry or an exit.
  • Management. Watching the open P&L, the R-multiple and the MAE and MFE bar by bar shows where you moved the stop, took profit early or held a loser too long.
  • After the exit. Seeing where price went after you closed tells you whether your take profit sits too close, as long as you read many trades and not one.
  • Another exit. A replay is the natural place to ask "what if": the same entry with another stop loss, target or time limit.

Pitfalls

  • One trade proves nothing. A replay where a 3R target would have been hit is an anecdote. Test an exit rule on all the trades of a setup before you change it; see sample size.
  • Peeking. Skipping ahead to see the outcome first turns the review back into hindsight. Play forward and decide at each bar what you would have done.
  • Wrong data. The candles must match the prices you traded. A broker's bid chart, another exchange or a time zone off by an hour can put a fill outside its own candle.
  • Costs. A replayed P&L is usually price only. Commission, fees and slippage still come off the real result.

In SetupBook

Replay on a trade's page plays it from just before the entry, with your fills on the bars where they happened and the P&L, R, MAE and MFE at every bar. At the exit it shows how far price ran afterwards and offers to save the measured MAE and MFE to the trade. What if? under the chart plays the same entries with another stop, target, trailing stop or time limit, and the Replay page plays your losers, one setup or this week in a row. Crypto candles come from public exchanges; for other markets you upload 1-minute candles or add your own data key in Settings. Replay is part of Pro. To practise on candles you have not traded yet, see backtesting.
